Snowhaven is a fun ski area located in Idaho, in the western United States. It's a great place to ski and snowboard, found about 7 miles (11 km) southeast of Grangeville. This area is part of Idaho County.
The highest point at Snowhaven is 5,600 feet (about 1,707 meters) above sea level. From top to bottom, the slopes drop 400 feet (about 122 meters). This makes for exciting runs on its east-facing hills.
Skiing and Snowboarding Fun
Snowhaven has two main lifts to take you up the mountain. There's a T-bar and a rope tow. These lifts help skiers and snowboarders reach the top of the 9 different trails.
The ski area gets about 60 inches (152 cm) of snowfall each year. This means there's usually plenty of snow for winter sports! The trails are mostly for beginners, with 75% of them being easy runs. The other 25% are for intermediate skiers who have a bit more experience.
The T-bar lift is 2,600 feet long (about 792 meters). It was put in place in the fall of 1972. This new lift helped add even more trails for people to enjoy. A special grant from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation helped pay for it.
How Snowhaven Started
Snowhaven is managed by the City of Grangeville. It's a local spot that's open on weekends for everyone to enjoy. Skiing first started here around 1940. However, it became much more popular after World War II.
