The Sobrato Office Tower is a tall, modern office building located at 488 Almaden Boulevard in San Jose, California. It has 17 floors above ground and three floors below. This building is the third tallest in San Jose. It was finished in 2002 by the Sobrato Organization.
Its Story
When the Sobrato Office Tower was completed in 2002, it stayed empty for nine years. In 2007, the Sobrato Organization sold the building for $135 million to a company called BEA Systems. Later, another big company, Oracle, bought BEA Systems. This made Oracle the current owner of the tower.
Finding Tenants
For a long time, the building struggled to find companies to rent its office spaces. Many companies, like the City of San Jose, Nvidia, and Sony, showed interest. However, none of these talks led to them moving in.
People often said that the building's location was the main problem. It was thought to be too far from the main downtown area of San Jose.
Finally, on November 17, 2010, good news arrived. A large accounting firm called PricewaterhouseCoopers announced they would rent a big part of the tower. They decided to lease eight floors, from level 10 to 17. They moved into the building in June 2011. This meant the Sobrato Office Tower was finally being used!
