Social Circle is a city located in the southern part of Walton County, in the U.S. state of Georgia. A small part of the city also reaches into Newton County. It is about 45 miles east of Atlanta, a major city in Georgia.

History of Social Circle
It's not completely clear how Social Circle got its unique name. One popular story says that a group of people living in the early settlement offered water to a tired traveler. The traveler was so grateful that he said, "This certainly is a social circle!" This kind act might have given the town its name.
Another idea is that a person from a nearby village, which was already called Social Circle, moved to this settlement in its early days. This could also be how the name came to be.
Social Circle officially became a town in 1869. Later, it grew even more and was recognized as a city in 1904.
Geography and Location
Social Circle covers an area of about 11.3 square miles (29.3 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a very small part being water.
The city has a CSX Transportation line maintenance facility. This is a place where trains and railroad tracks are kept in good working order. You can also see one of the few remaining concrete coaling towers in the southeastern United States in the city's railyard. These towers were once used to load coal into steam locomotives.

The city's population has grown over the years. According to the 2020 United States census, there were 4,974 people living in Social Circle. These people made up 1,598 households, with 1,301 of them being families.

Education in Social Circle
The Social Circle City School District is in charge of all the schools within the city. This school district helps students from pre-school all the way up to twelfth grade.
