Sodaville is what we call a ghost town in Mineral County, Nevada. A ghost town is a place that used to be a busy community but is now mostly empty.
A Look Back in Time
Sodaville was also known as "Soda Springs." This name came from a special mineral spring nearby. A mineral spring is a natural spring that has a lot of minerals dissolved in its water.
A post office opened in Sodaville in 1882. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, it closed down in 1917.
The Railroad Story
At first, a railroad station was planned for Sodaville. This would have made the town a very important stop for trains. But the railroad company and some people who owned land couldn't agree on things.
Because of this disagreement, the railroad decided to build their station somewhere else. They chose a spot about two miles north of Sodaville. This new place became the town of Mina, Nevada.
