Why Sodeto Was Built
This institute was set up by the Spanish government after the Spanish Civil War. Its main goal was to help areas of Spain that needed more people or to make dry land good for farming. Sodeto was built to help with this plan. The land where Sodeto now stands used to belong to a noble family, the Duke of Villahermosa.
Sodeto's Population
When Sodeto was first built, it had about 400 people living there. Over time, the number of people has gone down. Today, about 250 people call Sodeto home.
The Big Lottery Win
In early 2012, something amazing happened in Sodeto. The village's homeowner association won a huge prize in the Spanish Christmas Lottery. This lottery is very famous in Spain.
How Much Was Won
The villagers won about 750 million Euros in total! Each winning ticket was worth 100,000 Euros. Almost everyone in the village had bought at least one ticket. Only one person didn't have a ticket.
Media Attention
This incredible win made Sodeto famous around the world. Many journalists came to the village to report on the story. Everyone wanted to know what it felt like to win so much money.
Life After the Win
However, about a year later, news reports suggested that having so much money didn't make everyone in Sodeto happier. It showed that even a huge lottery win doesn't always solve all of life's problems.
