Sofia Helin is a talented actress from Sweden. She is well-known for playing the detective Saga Norén in the popular TV show The Bridge. This show is a crime drama made by both Danish and Swedish teams. Sofia was also nominated for a special award called the Guldbagge Award for her role in the movie Dalecarlians.

About Sofia Helin's Early Life and School

Sofia Margareta Helin was born on April 25, 1972. Her birthplace was a town called Hovsta in Örebro, Sweden. Her father worked as a salesman, and her mother was a nurse.

When Sofia was very young, a sad car accident happened. Her six-year-old brother was killed, though her grandmother survived. Sofia grew up in a town called Linghem, which is near Linköping.

Sofia studied acting for many years. From 1994 to 1996, she attended the Calle Flygares theatre school. She then graduated from the Stockholm Theatre Academy in 2001.

Sofia Helin has played many interesting characters in films and TV shows.

Early Film Roles

In 2003, Sofia played the main character, Chief Inspector Klara, in the film At Point Blank. The next year, in 2004, she starred as Mia in the Swedish comedy-drama movie Dalecarlians. Her performance in this film earned her a nomination for a Guldbagge Award.

Later, in 2007, she took on the role of Cecilia Algottsdotter in Arn. This movie was based on a famous book series about a knight. Sofia also lent her voice to the Swedish animated film Metropia in 2009.

Becoming Famous with The Bridge

Sofia became very famous outside of Sweden after 2012. This was when the first season of the crime drama The Bridge aired. In the show, she played Saga Norén, a detective from Malmö.

The Bridge became very popular in the UK, with over a million people watching each episode. Sofia's character, Saga, was seen as a role model. Many people thought she represented women with Asperger syndrome in a positive way. The fourth and final season of The Bridge was shown in 2018.

Other Notable Roles

In 2015, Sofia starred in a Danish science fiction film called Fang Rung. That same year, she acted in a British and German TV series. This show, called The Same Sky, was about Berlin in the 1970s. Sofia spoke both German and English in the series, which was filmed in Prague.

More recently, Sofia played an archaeologist in the second season of the Australian TV crime drama Mystery Road in 2020. In 2023, she took on the main role in the Swedish TV crime drama Fallen. She worked with the same director from The Bridge on this series.

Sofia also plays Julia Rothman, the leader of Scorpia, in the third season of the UK show Alex Rider. This season became available on April 5, 2024.

Sofia Helin's Personal Life

Sofia Helin has a scar on her face. This scar is from a bicycle accident she had when she was 24 years old.

Sofia is married to Daniel Götschenhjelm. He is a priest in the Church of Sweden and used to be an actor. They met when they were both studying at drama school. Sofia and Daniel have two children, a son and a daughter. In 2015, she was living in Stockholm. Sofia is a Christian.
