Sofia Shinas, born on January 17, 1968, is a talented Canadian artist. She is a singer, songwriter, actress, and director. Sofia started her career in music, then moved into acting, and later became a film director. Many people know her best for playing Shelly in the movie The Crow, where she acted alongside Brandon Lee.

Early Life and Education
Sofia Shinas was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Her parents are from Greece. She briefly attended the University of Toronto. However, she left before finishing her first semester. She wanted to focus on making music in New York City.
Later in her life, in 2008, Sofia graduated from the USC School of Cinema-Television in Los Angeles, California. For her final project there, she directed a film called Spring Eternal.
Music Career
Becoming a Recording Artist
In 1992, Sofia Shinas released her first album. It was called Sofia Shinas and came out on Warner Bros. Records. She helped write every song on the album. She also worked with many different music producers and remixers.
Her first song, "The Message", was very popular. It reached number 20 on Billboard's Dance/Club Play chart. It also became a pop hit, reaching number 75 on the Hot 100 chart. Her second song, "One Last Kiss", was not as big in the US, but it was a small hit in Canada. Her last song, "State of Mind", reached number 16 on the Dance/Club Play chart.
In 1993, Sofia was nominated for a Juno Award. This award was for Most Promising Female Vocalist. After this, Sofia decided to leave the music business. She wanted to try acting and directing instead. She has not released another music album since then.
Acting Career
Film Roles
Sofia Shinas made her first movie appearance in 1994. This was in the action thriller movie The Crow. She starred with Brandon Lee. This movie was a big success at the box office and became a cult favorite.
After The Crow, Sofia got a role in the movie Terminal Velocity. In this film, she acted alongside Charlie Sheen and Nastassja Kinski. She also starred with C. Thomas Howell in an independent action/drama movie called Hourglass. In 1997, she appeared in another action film, Dilemma.
Television Appearances
Sofia Shinas also acted in several TV shows. She was in two episodes of the science fiction series The Outer Limits. These episodes were called "Valerie 23" and "Mary 25". She also appeared in one episode of the TV series The Hunger.
Film Directing
After her acting career, Sofia Shinas became a film director. Her first movie as a director was a thriller called My Stepdaughter. It was released in August 2015.
