Sohag Gazi (Bengali: সোহাগ গাজী) is a talented cricketer from Bangladesh. He was born on August 5, 1991. Sohag is known as an all-rounder because he is good at both batting and bowling. He bowls with his right arm, using an off break style, and bats right-handed.

Sohag made his first Test match appearance in November 2012. He is famous for being the first and only cricketer to score a century (100 runs) and take a hat-trick (three wickets in a row) in the same Test match. He also achieved this amazing feat twice in first-class matches.

Playing for Teams in Bangladesh

Sohag Gazi started his cricket journey in January 2009. He played his first-class match for Barisal against Chittagong. He quickly became a regular player in the seasons that followed.

Early Success in Domestic Cricket

In the 2012-13 season, Sohag had a fantastic start. He scored 119 runs in a game against Khulna. This great performance helped him get called up to play for the national Test team for the first time.

He also made his One Day debut in October 2010. He helped his team, Barisal, reach the final of the National Cricket One Day League that year.

Playing for Different Teams

Sohag played for several teams in Bangladesh. In 2011, he played for the Bangladesh Academy. He also played for Bangladesh A team against touring teams like West Indies and England Lions.

He was a top wicket-taker for Central Zone in the 2017–18 Bangladesh Cricket League. He took 29 wickets in just six matches. In October 2018, he took his 21st five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. This means he took five or more wickets in a single innings 21 times.

Sohag was also the best wicket-taker for Barisal Division in another tournament. He took 19 wickets in five matches. Later, he joined the Rangpur Riders team for the 2018–19 Bangladesh Premier League. He continued to play for other teams like Mohammedan Sporting Club and Sylhet Thunder.

Sohag's International Cricket Journey

Sohag Gazi is a special kind of bowler in Bangladesh cricket. He is an off-spinner, which is not very common. He grew up near the Bay of Bengal and became a promising slow bowler. His bowling action is quick and smooth.

Joining the National Team

Sohag did well when he played for the Bangladesh A team. This helped him get picked for the Bangladesh national team. He made his Test debut against West Indies in November 2012.

In his first Test match, he bowled the very first ball. A famous player, Chris Gayle, hit that ball for a six. This was the first time in cricket history that the first ball of a Test match was hit for a six! Even with that start, Sohag took three wickets in that innings.

His bowling performance of 4 wickets for only 29 runs against West Indies was even nominated as one of the best One Day International bowling performances of the year by ESPNCricinfo.

Making History with Bat and Ball

In October 2013, Sohag Gazi achieved something truly amazing. In a Test match against New Zealand, he scored his first Test century, getting 101 runs without being out. Bangladesh scored 501 runs in that innings.

Right after his century, he took a hat-trick in New Zealand's innings! He dismissed three players – Corey Anderson, BJ Watling, and Doug Bracewell – with three consecutive deliveries. This made him the first person in the history of cricket to score a century and take a hat-trick in the same Test match. He was also the second Bangladeshi player to take a Test hat-trick.

Temporary Pause in Bowling

At one point, Sohag Gazi's bowling action was checked by the ICC. They found that his arm bent more than the allowed 15 degrees when he bowled. Because of this, he had a temporary pause from bowling in international matches. He worked on his bowling action to meet the rules and was later allowed to bowl again.
