Solar is a small area of land, known as a townland, in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It covers about 42 acres. This area is part of the civil parish of Carncastle. It also belongs to the historic barony of Glenarm Upper.
Discovering Ancient History
Solar is home to some very old and important sites. These include the remains of a church and a graveyard. These places are protected as Scheduled Historic Monuments. This means they are important historical sites.
Uncovering an Old Cemetery
In 1993, archaeologists dug up an Early Christian cemetery in Solar. They found more than 120 burials there. These burials were from a long time ago, between the 7th and 12th centuries. That's from the 600s to the 1100s!
Some of these old burials had been moved or changed. This happened because of a stone-lined pit. This pit was made during the time of the Anglo-Normans. The Anglo-Normans were people who came to Ireland many centuries ago.
