A Soldier Fuel bar.

The Soldier Fuel bar is a special energy bar first made for the U.S. military. It was created in 1996 and used to be called the Hooah! bar. This bar is made with dairy and has extra calcium. Soldiers often received it in their field meals, like the Meal, Ready-to-Eat (MRE) or other special rations.

What's in a Name? The Story of Hooah! and Oohrah!

The original name, "Hooah!", comes from a word often used by the United States Army. It's an expression that shows high spirits, strength, and confidence.

However, the Marines have their own similar word: "Oohrah!". Because of this, the first bars had "HOOAH!" with the Army's symbol on one side. The other side had "OOH-RAH!" with the Marine Corps' symbol. Newer wrappers now show both symbols together.

Flavors for Soldiers

The military's original Hooah! bars came in several tasty flavors. These included apple-cinnamon, chocolate, raspberry, cran-raspberry, and peanut butter.

There were also smaller versions of the bars for the "First Strike Ration" meals. These had similar flavors, but mocha was used instead of peanut butter.

From Military to Public: Soldier Fuel's Journey

In 2004, a company called D'Andrea Brothers LLC got permission to sell the "Hooah!" bar to the public. This is when the bar's name changed to "Soldier Fuel."

The Soldier Fuel bar is designed to give you energy. Each bar has about 270 to 280 calories. It also provides 10 grams of protein, 8 or 9 grams of fat, and 40 to 42 grams of carbohydrates. In early 2020, the bar was mainly sold in chocolate flavor.
