Sollana is a small town in Spain. It is located in the Valencian Community, which is an area on the eastern coast of Spain. Sollana is part of a larger region called Ribera Baixa. Another small village, El Romaní, is also part of the Sollana area.
Sollana is built on the flat land near the Júcar River. This area is famous for being where rice was first grown in Spain. That was about 1,200 years ago! It's also known as the home of paella, a very popular Spanish dish made with rice. Most people in Sollana work in farming. They grow rice and oranges, and also raise animals.

A Look at Sollana's History
Sollana has a long history. In the early Middle Ages, it was a small settlement. This means it was a place where people lived. It was part of the Visigothic Kingdom.
Sollana in Ancient Times
Later, during the time of al-Andalus (when parts of Spain were ruled by Muslims), Sollana was called Sulyanah. It was the main village for a region that included other small places like Romaní.
Becoming Part of Aragon
In the 1200s, a period called the Reconquista happened. This is when Christian kingdoms took back control of Spain. James I of Aragon was a king who gave Sollana to one of his trusted helpers. Over time, Sollana became part of a large estate called the Dukedom of Híjar.
Modern Political Changes
In January 1932, during a time of big political change in Spain, some groups in Sollana briefly tried to set up their own independent government. This was during the Second Spanish Republic.

The people of Sollana have a special protector called a patron saint. Sollana's patron saint is Mary Magdalene.
Summer Festivities
Every summer, the town celebrates Mary Magdalene. The festivities start on her special day, July 22nd. They continue all the way until August 14th. On this night, the town council holds a "night of the paellas." People gather in the city center to cook and enjoy paella together. The celebrations usually end in late August with traditional events involving bulls.
