Exploring Somers' Past
The heart of Somers village is home to the Somers Historic District. This special area covers about 100 acres (or 40 hectares). It's a great place to see buildings from a long time ago.
Old Buildings and Styles
Most of the buildings in the historic district are homes built in the early 1800s. They show off two popular styles of architecture from that time:
- Federal style: This style was common in the United States after the American Revolution.
- Greek Revival style: This style became popular a bit later, inspired by ancient Greek temples.
You can also find some buildings from the later 1800s. These show different architectural styles that were popular then.
Where to Find Historic Homes
The oldest homes in Somers are mostly found in three main spots:
- Near the intersection of Springfield Road and Main Street.
- On the eastern end of Main Street.
- Just west of the modern town hall, which was built in 1950.
