Somes Bar, sometimes spelled Sommes Bar, is a small community in Siskiyou County, California, in the United States. It is called an "unincorporated community" because it does not have its own local government like a city does. Instead, the county manages it. Somes Bar is located along the Salmon River, about 12 miles (19 km) northwest of a place called Forks of Salmon. The community has its own post office with ZIP code 95568, which first opened in 1875.
History of Somes Bar
Somes Bar got its name from a man named George Somes. He was the first person to find gold in this area in 1850. Because of his discovery, the community was named after him.
When Somes Bar was first settled, it was part of a different county called Klamath County. Later, Klamath County was dissolved, and Somes Bar became part of Siskiyou County.
