Sommore (born Lori Ann Rambough on May 15, 1966) is an American comedian and actress. She is known for her funny and direct style of comedy. Many people call her the "Diva of Contemporary Comedy."
Sommore became famous as the first female host of the TV show ComicView on BET. She was also one of the four main comedians on The Queens of Comedy tour. She has appeared in movies like Friday After Next and Soul Plane. She even won the Richard Pryor Award for Comic of the Year!
Early Life and School
Sommore grew up in Trenton, New Jersey. She went to McCorristin Catholic High School and finished in 1985. After high school, she studied business administration at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. Before becoming a comedian, Sommore worked in different jobs, including retail and teaching algebra.
Comedy Career
Sommore believes her strong writing skills helped her become a successful comedian. Her father, who was a writer and English teacher, inspired her. She spent a lot of time learning about the comedy business and how to be a great comedian. She also loves gospel music and looks up to singer Karen Clark Sheard.
TV Shows and Movies
Sommore has been on many popular TV shows. These include HBO's Def Comedy Jam, Showtime at the Apollo, and ComicView. She also made guest appearances on sitcoms like The Hughleys and The Parkers. You might have even seen her on The Oprah Winfrey Show! In 2007, she was part of the Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav. She also appeared as a contestant on the game show 1 vs. 100 in 2008.
Her movies include Soul Plane, A Miami Tail, Friday After Next, and Something New.
Sommore was a big part of The Queens of Comedy tour. She toured with other talented African American female comedians like Mo'Nique, Laura Hayes, and Adele Givens. This tour was even filmed and shown on Showtime!
In 2008, Sommore released her own stand-up comedy special called "The Queen Stands Alone." She wrote and produced this special herself through her company, One Thousand Kisses, Inc.
Sommore also joined the TV show Celebrity Fit Club in its sixth season. She lost 11 pounds while on the show.
Her comedy special from 2015, Sommore: The Reign Continues, was available on Netflix in 2018.
Personal Life
Besides her hometown of Trenton, New Jersey, Sommore has lived in Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She currently lives in Miami. Her father was a poet named Doughtry "Doc" Long. Her half-sister is the famous actress Nia Long.
