Sonho de Valsa facts for kids
Sonho de Valsa (which means "A Waltz Dream" in English) is a very popular chocolate candy from Brazil. It's a delicious bonbon with a creamy cashew nut filling, all covered in chocolate. The candy was first made in 1938 by a Brazilian company called Lacta. Later, a bigger company, Kraft Foods Brazil, bought Lacta. Now, Sonho de Valsa bonbons are even sent to other countries like the United States, Paraguay, and Venezuela.
This tasty treat is made with a crispy wafer cone. This cone is then covered with two layers of chocolate. Inside, it's filled with a smooth cashew cream.
History of Sonho de Valsa
The Sonho de Valsa candy was created by Lacta in 1938. Back then, you could buy these bonbons in bakeries. The company first aimed this candy at women. Its romantic name, "A Waltz Dream," was similar to other Brazilian candies like "Serenata de Amor" (Love Serenade). Soon, Sonho de Valsa became a symbol of love. Giving a Sonho de Valsa to someone you care about was seen as a sweet gesture between couples.
In 1996, the food part of Kraft Foods bought Lacta. After that, Kraft started to make Sonho de Valsa available in more places and in different ways. Today, Sonho de Valsa is the most famous candy eaten in Brazil. More than 21 billion of these candies have been sold over the years!
Packaging Changes
The way Sonho de Valsa is wrapped is very famous and hasn't changed much for many years. Before 2019, the wrapper looked like a paper rose. It had a picture of a couple dancing. On the sides, there was a small part of a song called Ein Walzertraum. However, when cellophane started to be made in Brazil, Sonho de Valsa changed its wrapper. It was wrapped in paper and then covered with clear red cellophane. A black seal with the candy's name and a drawing of a guitar finished the first package.
In 2001, some small changes were made to the package. The style of the letters, the musical instruments, and the clothes the dancing couple wore were updated a little.
During the 1990s, Sonho de Valsa grew from just a candy into a whole brand. People loved the product so much that new flavors and different package sizes were created. Today, you can buy Sonho de Valsa in many types of packages. These include packs with five chocolates (105g), a one-pound package, special collectible tins, and even heart-shaped boxes. There are also mini packs of the chocolates.
Packaging Evolution
In April 2011, the packaging of Sonho de Valsa had its biggest change ever. Kraft spent two years working on a new wrapper. This new package had a special seal and was wrapped from the side. The main goal of this new packaging was to keep the chocolate fresh and crispy for longer. This was especially important in warmer and humid places. The new wrapper used technology similar to what is used for Easter eggs. This change was also part of a plan to send the chocolate to more countries, especially those next to Brazil. Even with the new seal, the colors and designs on the package stayed the same. This new way of wrapping was also safer. It made it harder for small creatures like ants to get inside. It also helped prevent people from tampering with the candy.
Flavors
Besides the classic Milk Sonho de Valsa, there are other flavors available. These include the White Sonho de Valsa, the Sonho de Valsa truffle, and the white and black truffle Sonho de Valsa.
