Anderson da Silva (born 19 September 1970), known as Sonny Anderson, is a former Brazilian football player. He was a very good striker who scored many goals for his teams. He played most of his career in France, especially for Lyon and Monaco. He also played for Barcelona in Spain.
Sonny Anderson played for the Brazilian national team a few times. He was part of the team that played in the 2001 Confederations Cup.

Sonny Anderson's Club Career
Early Days and First Steps Abroad
Sonny Anderson was born in Goiatuba, Goiás, Brazil. He started his professional football journey with CR Vasco da Gama. He then moved to Guarani.
His first time playing football outside Brazil was with Servette FC in Switzerland. He quickly became a star there. In his first season, he scored 18 goals. The next season, he helped his team win the Swiss national league. He scored 11 goals in just the first half of that season.
Shining in France
In January 1994, Sonny Anderson moved to France to play for Olympique de Marseille. After six months, he joined another French team, AS Monaco FC. He continued to score many goals there. He helped Monaco win the league title in 1997. He also won awards for being a top player.
Time at Barcelona
In 1997, Anderson joined FC Barcelona in Spain. He had to compete with other great players like Luis Enrique and Patrick Kluivert for a spot. He still did very well, scoring ten goals in his first season. Barcelona won two big trophies that year: the league title and the Spanish Cup. In his second year, he played less, so he decided to go back to France.
He joined Olympique Lyonnais, a growing team in France. He was a very important player for Lyon. He helped them win their first two of seven league championships in a row.
Back to Spain and Retirement
When he was 33, Sonny Anderson returned to Spain to play for Villarreal CF. In his first full season, he scored 12 goals. He scored against big teams like Real Madrid and his old club Barcelona. He also helped Villarreal reach the semifinals of the UEFA Cup.
After helping Villarreal win the UEFA Intertoto Cup twice, Anderson finished his playing career in Qatar. Later, he returned to Lyon to work with the team's strikers, helping them improve. In 2011, he started coaching for Neuchâtel Xamax in Switzerland, but he left after only two games.
Sonny Anderson's International Career
Sonny Anderson did not play for the Brazil national team as much as he did for his clubs. He played in only six international matches for Brazil. His first game was against South Korea in August 1997, where he scored his only goal for his country. He also played in the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup. His last international game was in the same year.
