His first time playing football outside Brazil was with Servette FC in Switzerland. He quickly became a star there. In his first season, he scored 18 goals. The next season, he helped his team win the Swiss national league. He scored 11 goals in just the first half of that season.

He still did very well, scoring ten goals in his first season. Barcelona won two big trophies that year: the league title and the Spanish Cup. In his second year, he played less, so he decided to go back to France.

He joined Olympique Lyonnais, a growing team in France. He was a very important player for Lyon. He helped them win their first two of seven league championships in a row.

Back to Spain and Retirement

When he was 33, Sonny Anderson returned to Spain to play for Villarreal CF. In his first full season, he scored 12 goals. He scored against big teams like Real Madrid and his old club Barcelona. He also helped Villarreal reach the semifinals of the UEFA Cup.
