Sonya Alicia Curry (born May 30, 1966) is an American educator and author. She is well-known as the mother of professional basketball stars Stephen Curry and Seth Curry.

Sonya Alicia Adams was born in Radford, Virginia, in the United States. Her parents are Cleive and Candy Adams. Sonya is African-American. Her family faced challenges growing up.
At Radford High School, Sonya was a talented athlete. She played volleyball, ran track and field, and played basketball. After high school, she attended Virginia Tech. There, she continued to play volleyball. She even earned special honors in the Metro Conference during her junior year. Sonya earned a college degree in education. Her college roommate shared that the volleyball team was very popular, largely because of Sonya.
Family Life and Meeting Dell Curry
Sonya met her future husband, Dell Curry, at Virginia Tech. She was watching the men's basketball practice when they first noticed each other. Sonya and Dell married in 1988. They later divorced in 2021 after 33 years of marriage.

Founding a School
In 1995, Sonya Curry started a school called the Christian Montessori School of Lake Norman. This school is located in Huntersville, North Carolina. Her own children attended the school she founded.
