About Sophie Hopkins
Early Life and Education
Sophie Hopkins was born in Singapore. She grew up in the East Yorkshire Wolds in England. She went to Woldgate School. After that, she studied Performing Arts and Musical Theatre at City of York College. She finished her studies there in 2009.
In 2010, Sophie moved to London. There, she trained at the Identity School of Acting. She also joined the Fourth Monkey Theatre Company.
Her Acting Career
In April 2016, Sophie Hopkins got a big role. She was cast as April MacLean in the BBC Three show Class. This series is a spin-off from Doctor Who. Her character, April, is a student at Coal Hill School. Sophie described April as a bit "socially awkward." But she also said April was "compassionate, kind," and sometimes "extraordinarily brave." The show even advertised April as "the British Buffy."
When Sophie first got the script, she only knew the show would be like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She decided to audition based on that. She didn't know it was a Doctor Who spin-off at first! While making the series, Sophie lived in Cardiff. She even lived in the same building as actress Vivian Oparah.
In 2016, Sophie also appeared in her first full-length movie. It was a horror-thriller called Brackenmore, filmed in Ireland. Later, in 2018, Sophie played April MacLean again. This time, it was for six Class audio plays by Big Finish.
She then appeared in Greta Bellamacina's 2019 film Hurt by Paradise. In 2020, she took part in Trickster virtual live readings. These readings helped raise money for the NHS during the COVID-19 pandemic. After that, she was in an episode of the Sky Max series Wolfe. She also appeared in the Hallmark Channel film Jolly Good Christmas. Sophie has also been in the ITV series The Long Shadow.
