Sophie Smith is an Australian water polo player. She was born on 26 February 1986. Sophie plays in the centre back/driver position. She has played for different teams in Australia's National Water Polo League.
Sophie has also played for Australia's national water polo teams. She won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She also earned a bronze medal at the 2005 FINA Junior World Championships. In 2010, she won a silver medal at the FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup.

About Sophie Smith
Sophie Smith was born in Brisbane, Australia. She went to the Brisbane Girls Grammar School. In 2005, she lived in Brisbane, Queensland.
She later attended Hartwick College in New York, USA. She received a scholarship to play water polo there. Sophie is also a student at the Queensland University of Technology. She is studying fashion design part-time. She has worked as a styling assistant and make-up artist.
Playing Water Polo
Sophie started playing water polo when she was thirteen years old. She was attending Brisbane Grammar School at the time. She usually wears cap number 3 during games. Her main role in the team is centre back/driver.
Club Teams Sophie Played For
Sophie plays club water polo for the Queensland Breakers. She was part of their team in 2009. She has also played for the Brisbane Barracudas. In 2008, she was on the Barracudas squad. Games between the Breakers and Barracudas are often very exciting.
In 2012, Sophie played for the Victorian Tigers. She has also played water polo for clubs in the United States and Italy. She played for Hartwick College at the university level. In 2008, Sophie also played for a team from the Australian Institute of Sport.
Playing for Australia's Junior Team
Sophie has played for Australia's junior national team. In 2004, she went on a tour of Europe with the team. This tour happened in July and August.
She was also part of the Australian junior team at the 2005 World Junior Championships. This event took place in Perth, Western Australia. Her team won the bronze medal game against Greece with a score of 10-4. Their only loss in that tournament was a close 4–5 game against the United States.
Playing for Australia's Senior Team
Sophie is a member of the Australian Stingers. Being on this team was always a big goal for her. Her first major international competition with the Stingers was the 2009 FINA World Championships. This event was held in Rome.
Sophie was part of the Stingers team at the 2010 FINA World Cup. This competition was in Christchurch, New Zealand. In a semi-final game against Russia, she had to leave the game due to fouls. In May 2010, she played with the team in the FINA World League. These games were held in Osaka, Japan and Tianjin, China.
In 2011, Sophie was one of five players from Queensland on the Australian Stingers team. They competed in the FINA World League in Auckland, New Zealand. In July of the same year, she was part of the Stingers team at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai. Before this tournament, she trained with the team in Perth, Western Australia.
She also played in the 2012 Pan Pacific Water Polo Championships in January 2012. In February 2012, she was chosen for the final training squad for the 2012 Summer Olympics. She attended a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport. Sophie was then selected to compete at the 2012 Olympics. She also played in a series of five games against Great Britain in February 2012. These were the first games against Great Britain's national team in six years.
