Soprole is a well-known company from Chile. Its full name is Sociedad de Productores de Leche, which means "Society of Milk Producers." Soprole makes many tasty dairy products. You might know them for their yogurt, milk, desserts, jelly, and butter.

For many years, Soprole was part of a company called Fonterra. But in 2022, things changed. Since March 2023, Soprole is now part of Grupo Gloria, a large food company from Peru.

Soprole's Story

Soprole started its journey in 1948. When it first began, the company mainly made just three things: milk, cheese, and butter.

Growing and Changing

In the 1970s, Soprole began to make more types of food. They started producing things like juices, pastries, and yogurt. This helped the company grow even bigger.

One of the people who helped start Soprole was Juan Luis Undurraga Aninat. He bought more shares in the company. This meant he owned a big part of Soprole, more than 40 percent.

In 1986, a company from New Zealand called the New Zealand Dairy Board bought most of Soprole's shares. This company is now part of Fonterra. This made them the main owners of Soprole. That same year, Juan Luis Undurraga Aninat gave his shares to create a special group called the Fundación Isabel Aninat.

Buying Other Companies

With the New Zealand Dairy Board in charge, Soprole bought other food companies. For example, they bought Lácteos Pirque in 1994. Later, in 1997, they bought Dos Álamos. These purchases helped Soprole become even larger in the Chilean market.

Today, four main companies sell most of the dairy products in Chile. These companies are Nestlé, Soprole, Loncoleche, and Colún.

A New Owner

In November 2022, a company from Peru called Grupo Gloria Inc. decided to buy Soprole. They paid 210 million US dollars for it.

After getting approval from the authorities in Chile, Gloria Foods officially took full control of Soprole on March 30, 2023. This means Soprole is now part of the Grupo Gloria family of companies.
