The Story of Soprole
How Soprole Started
Soprole began its journey in 1948. When it first started, the company mainly made milk, cheese, and butter. These were important products for families in Chile.
Growing and Changing Products
In the 1970s, Soprole started to make even more products. They added things like juices, pastries, and yogurt to their list. This helped the company grow and offer more choices to its customers.
One of the people who helped start Soprole, Juan Luis Undurraga Aninat, bought more shares in the company. This meant he owned a big part of Soprole.
New Owners and Expansion
In 1986, a company from New Zealand called the New Zealand Dairy Board bought more than half of Soprole's shares. This company is now part of Fonterra. So, Soprole became part of a bigger international group. Around the same time, Juan Luis Undurraga Aninat gave his shares to create a special foundation called Fundación Isabel Aninat.
Under the control of the New Zealand Dairy Board, Soprole continued to grow. They even bought other dairy companies in Chile, like Lácteos Pirque in 1994 and Dos Álamos in 1997. This helped Soprole become one of the biggest dairy companies in Chile. Today, Soprole is one of the main companies that provide dairy products in Chile, along with others like Nestlé, Loncoleche, and Colún.
Soprole Joins Grupo Gloria
In November 2022, a company from Peru called Grupo Gloria Inc. decided to buy Soprole. The deal was completed on March 30, 2023. After getting approval from the authorities in Chile, Gloria Foods, which is part of Grupo Gloria S.A., took full control of Soprole. This means Soprole is now part of the Grupo Gloria family of food companies.
