Soracá is a small town and a type of local government area called a municipality in Colombia. It's located in the Boyacá Department, which is a part of Colombia. Soracá is surrounded by other towns like Chivatá to the north, Siachoque, Viracacha, and Ramiriquí to the east. To the south is the town of Boyacá, and to the west is Tunja, the capital city of the department.

What Soracá Means
The name Soracá comes from the Chibcha language. In this language, Soracá means "ruling mansion of the sovereign." This suggests it was an important place for leaders long ago.
A Look Back at Soracá's History
Before the Spanish arrived, the area where Soracá is now was part of the zacazgo of Hunza. Today, Hunza is known as Tunja. The Muisca lived here and were an advanced civilization. They spoke the Chibcha language.
In the 1530s, Spanish explorers called conquistadores came to the Muisca lands. They were led by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. This marked a big change for the Muisca people.
