Sos Sargsyan (born October 24, 1929 – died September 26, 2013) was a famous Armenian actor, director, and writer. He was known for his many roles in plays and movies.

About Sos Sargsyan

Sos Sargsyan was born in Stepanavan, a town in northern Armenia. At that time, Armenia was part of a larger country called the Soviet Union. In 1948, he moved to Yerevan, the capital city. There, he started acting at the Theater of the Young Spectator.

He studied acting and graduated from the Fine Arts and Theater Institute in 1954. From 1954 to 1991, he was a main actor at the Sundukyan State Academic Theatre of Yerevan.

In 1991, Armenia became an independent country. Sos Sargsyan was involved in the first presidential election in independent Armenia. He also started his own theater called the Hamazgayin (Pan-National) Theater in 1991. He led this theater until he passed away. From 1997 to 2006, he was the head of the Yerevan Cinema and Theatre Institute.

Sos Sargsyan died on September 26, 2013, in Yerevan. Many people, including Armenia's President, attended his funeral. He was buried in the Komitas Pantheon, a special cemetery for famous people in Armenia.

His Acting Career

Sos Sargsyan began his acting career in 1947. He played many important characters in plays, such as Don Quixote, Iago, King John, and King Lear.

He also acted in over 40 films. Most of these were Armenian movies. He also appeared in some Russian films. One of his most famous roles was in the 1972 movie Solaris, which was directed by Andrei Tarkovsky.
