Where is South Bethlehem?
South Bethlehem is in the northern part of Armstrong County. It is in western Pennsylvania. The town sits on the south side of Redbank Creek.
Right across Redbank Creek is the town of New Bethlehem. This town is in Clarion County. It's important to know that neither South Bethlehem nor New Bethlehem are close to the city of Bethlehem. That city is in eastern Pennsylvania.
Nearby Roads and Towns
Two main roads, Route 28 and Route 66, go through South Bethlehem.
- Route 28 and Route 66 lead southwest about 19 miles (31 km) to Kittanning.
- Route 28 goes northeast about 20 miles (32 km) to Brookville.
- Route 66 goes north about 17 miles (27 km) to Clarion.
These towns are both near Interstate 80.

History of South Bethlehem
South Bethlehem was founded by William R. Hamilton. He bought the land from Lewis Daubenspecht. The town first appeared on a map of Armstrong County in 1876.
The land was part of a very large area, over 280,000 acres. This land was given to Willem Willink in 1802. Willink was an investor in the Holland Land Company.
