Where the River Flows
The South Branch Pawtuxet River starts in Coventry, Rhode Island. It forms when two smaller rivers, the Big River and the Flat River, join together. This area is now covered by the Flat River Reservoir.
From there, the river flows east and then turns northeast. It travels through Coventry and several old textile mill villages. These villages include Anthony, Quidnick, Crompton, Centreville, Arctic, and River Point in West Warwick, Rhode Island. Finally, it meets the North Branch Pawtuxet River. When these two branches come together, they form the main Pawtuxet River.
Rivers That Join It
The South Branch Pawtuxet River has a few smaller streams that flow into it. These are called tributaries. The Mishnock River and Hawkinson Brook are the only named tributaries. However, many other unnamed streams also feed water into the South Branch Pawtuxet River.
