The Story of the South County Museum
How the Museum Started
The South County Museum first opened its doors in 1933. It began in North Kingstown, and its very first collection of items was kept in a barn in a place called Wickford.
Just one year later, the museum found a new home. It moved to the Knight Farm, which was also in North Kingstown.
Finding a Permanent Home
In 1984, the museum moved again to where it is today. Its current home is on Canonchet Farm in Narragansett. This land has an interesting past! It used to belong to Colonel William Sprague, who was once the governor of Rhode Island.
What You Can Discover Inside
The South County Museum is filled with amazing items. These items, called artifacts, show what life was like long ago. You can see things from the 1600s all the way up to more modern times. It's like taking a trip through history!
