A Look Back: Station History

South Ealing station first opened a long time ago, on 1 May 1883. It was originally a stop on the District Railway. This railway later became known as the District line.

When it first opened, the trains were powered by steam. However, the line was updated and became electric in 1905.

The Piccadilly line started serving South Ealing station on 9 January 1933. The station was given a big update between 1935 and 1936. During this time, the old buildings were replaced. The platform for eastbound trains got a new concrete roof and a waiting room. Electric lights were also installed.

The District line trains stopped serving South Ealing in 1964.

The station building was replaced again in 1983. It was given another refresh and updated in 2006.
