History of South Wentworthville

Traditional Owners of the Land

The land where South Wentworthville now stands originally belonged to the Darug people. They were the first inhabitants and traditional owners of this area.

Early Land Sales and Development

In 1895, a large piece of land called the Fullagar estate was put up for sale. This part of the estate was south of the Great Western Highway. An old map from that time shows the Western Road, which is now called the Great Western Highway. It also shows Frances Street. Today, Frances Street does not connect to the highway because of the M4 motorway construction.

The Fullagar estate was offered for sale again in 1902. This sale included the area between Coleman Street, Frances Street, and up to Richmond Street.
