The Southeast Upsalquitch River is a river in New Brunswick, Canada. It flows into the Upsalquitch River from the east. A tributary is a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river. This river runs through Northumberland County and parts of Restigouche County.
As it flows northwest, the Southeast Upsalquitch River travels through the Naturalists Mountains. It also passes to the northeast of a place called Caribou Mountain.

Where Does the Southeast Upsalquitch River Start?
The Southeast Upsalquitch River begins at Upsalquitch Lake. This lake is in Northumberland County. The lake is about 1.6 kilometres (0.99 mi) long and sits at a height of 251 metres (823 ft) above sea level.
Upsalquitch Lake is found in a narrow valley that runs from north to south. This valley is part of the Naturalists Mountains.

The start of the river at Upsalquitch Lake is in a forest area. Here are some distances to nearby landmarks:
- It is 2.3 kilometres (1.4 mi) west of Mount Perley.
- It is 3.3 kilometres (2.1 mi) northwest of Mount Chamberlain.

- It is 24.3 kilometres (15.1 mi) southwest of where the Little Southeast Upsalquitch River joins.

The River's Journey
The Southeast Upsalquitch River flows for about 39.6 kilometres (24.6 mi). It travels through a small valley surrounded by tall mountains. Its journey can be split into two main parts:
Upper Part of the River
This section is about 19.7 kilometres (12.2 mi) long.
- It flows 0.1 kilometres (0.062 mi) north to the Balmoral Parish border.
- Then, it goes 2.9 kilometres (1.8 mi) northeast to meet Cook Savoie Gulch.
- It continues 6.1 kilometres (3.8 mi) northwest through Balmoral Parish to Eighteen Mile Brook.
- Next, it flows 4.2 kilometres (2.6 mi) northwest to Murray Brook.
- It turns 0.2 kilometres (0.12 mi) west to Ramsay Brook.
- It then goes 2.2 kilometres (1.4 mi) north to McCormack Brook.
- Finally, it flows 4.0 kilometres (2.5 mi) north to Meadow Brook.
Lower Part of the River
This part of the river is about 19.9 kilometres (12.4 mi) long.
- It flows 5.9 kilometres (3.7 mi) northwest to Mulligan Brook.
- Then, it goes 0.7 kilometres (0.43 mi) north to meet the Little Southeast Upsalquitch River.
- It continues 5.5 kilometres (3.4 mi) northwest to Ferguson Brook.
- The river then flows 7.8 kilometres (4.8 mi) west. During this stretch, it passes the Southeast Lower Falls and goes north of Caribou Mountain.
- Finally, it reaches its confluence (where two rivers join) with the Upsalquitch River.
The Southeast Upsalquitch River joins the Upsalquitch River on its east bank. This meeting point is about 29.3 kilometres (18.2 mi) southeast of where the Upsalquitch River itself ends.
What is the Climate Like?
The area around Upsalquitch Lake has a subarctic climate. This means it has long, cold winters and short, mild summers.
Summers are usually rainy and not too hot, though there might be a few warm days. Nights stay cool. Winters are among the longest, coldest, and snowiest in New Brunswick. On average, about 130 inches (330 cm) of snow falls each year. Winter can start in late October and last until April.
