Southern Hills is a neighborhood in the city of Roanoke, Virginia. It is located at the very south end of the city. This area used to be part of Roanoke County. It officially became part of Roanoke City in 1976. Since the 1990s, many new homes and businesses have been built here.

Before 1976, Southern Hills was not part of Roanoke City. It was part of the surrounding Roanoke County. In 1976, the city of Roanoke decided to expand its borders. This process is called annexation. When an area is annexed, it means it officially becomes part of a nearby city or town. After this happened, Southern Hills saw a lot of new buildings. Many homes and businesses were built, making it a busy and growing part of Roanoke.
