Camissoniopsis bistorta, also known as the southern suncup or California suncup, is a bright and cheerful flowering plant. It belongs to the evening primrose family. This plant is native to sunny southern California and Baja California in Mexico.

What Does the Southern Suncup Look Like?
The southern suncup is a hairy plant that grows from a group of leaves at its base, called a basal rosette. Imagine a circle of leaves close to the ground. From this rosette, stems can spread out up to 80 centimeters long.
The leaves are shaped like a spear or a narrow arrowhead. They can be anywhere from 1 to 12 centimeters long and sometimes have small teeth along their edges.
Flowers and Fruit
At the end of the spreading stems, you'll find groups of nodding flowers. Each flower has four bright yellow petals. Look closely, and you'll see a small red dot at the base of each petal.
In the center of the flower are the stamens, which produce pollen. There is also a part called the stigma, which is nearly round and sticks out. After the flower is pollinated, it forms a fruit. This fruit is a straight or slightly curled capsule, which can grow up to 4 centimeters long.

This plant is a native species to specific parts of North America. It thrives in the warm, sunny climates of southern California in the United States and Baja California in Mexico.
