The Soyuz TMA-09M was a space mission by Russia's Soyuz spacecraft. Its main goal was to take three astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). The spacecraft stayed connected to the ISS for a long time. It acted as a safe escape vehicle for the crew during Expedition 36 and Expedition 37.

On November 11, 2013, the Soyuz TMA-09M returned to Earth. It brought back the same three astronauts who had flown up on it. The crew included Fyodor Yurchikhin from Roskosmos (Russia's space agency), Karen Nyberg from NASA (USA's space agency), and Luca Parmitano from the European Space Agency.

  • About: He also helped with the spacecraft's operations and scientific tasks.

Launch and Docking with the ISS

The Soyuz TMA-09M spacecraft began its journey from Site 1/5 in Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. It launched on May 28, 2013, at 8:31 PM UTC. A powerful Soyuz-FG rocket pushed the spacecraft into low Earth orbit.

Just nine minutes after liftoff, the Soyuz spacecraft separated from the rocket. It then began its quick journey to the International Space Station.

Fast Trip to the Space Station

The spacecraft docked with the ISS very quickly. This happened at 2:10 AM UTC on May 29, 2013. It took less than six hours from launch to docking. This fast method is used to make sure the crew spends less time in the small Soyuz spacecraft. The Soyuz connected to the Rassvet module on the ISS.
