Spaghettieis, also called spaghetti ice cream, is a fun and unique dessert from Germany. It looks just like a plate of spaghetti, but it's actually made of ice cream!
To create this cool treat, vanilla ice cream is pushed through a special tool. This tool is like a potato ricer or a Spätzle press. It makes the ice cream come out in long, thin strands, just like spaghetti noodles. These ice cream "noodles" are then placed on top of whipped cream.
For the "sauce," strawberry sauce is poured over the ice cream. This makes it look like tomato sauce. Finally, the dish is topped with things like coconut flakes, grated almonds, or white chocolate shavings. These toppings look like parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.
Sometimes, you might find different versions of Spaghettieis. Some have dark chocolate and nuts, looking like spaghetti carbonara. In America, some places even add small pieces of chocolate brownie to make it look like spaghetti and meatballs!

The Story of Spaghettieis
Spaghettieis was invented in the late 1960s in Mannheim, Germany. A man named Dario Fontanella created it. His family owned an ice cream shop.
How the Idea Started
When Dario was a teenager, he went skiing in Italy. There, he tried a dessert called a mont blanc. This dessert is made with chestnut puree that looks like noodles. Dario learned that it was made using a spätzle press. He thought, "What if I tried this with ice cream?"
First Tries and Success
Dario went back to his father's ice cream shop. His first attempt at Spaghettieis was colorful. He used strawberry, lemon, and pistachio ice cream. It looked like the Italian flag. His father was not very impressed with this version.
Dario then tried again. He used only vanilla ice cream. He topped it with a smooth strawberry puree. To make it look like parmesan cheese, he grated a white chocolate Easter egg on top. This new version was a hit!
A Funny Reaction
Dario remembers that at first, some children would cry when they saw Spaghettieis. They wanted ice cream, but they thought they were getting a plate of spaghetti! Once they tasted it, they loved it.
In 2014, Dario Fontanella received a special award. It was called the "Bloomaulorden," given by the city of Mannheim. This award honored his creative invention.
