SPAM Jam (formerly known as Cedar River days) is a fun yearly festival. It celebrates the popular meat product called Spam. This festival used to be held in Austin, Minnesota. That is where Hormel Foods makes Spam.

The festival in Minnesota lasted for about a week, from July 1 to 7. It had many exciting things to do. People could enjoy fireworks, watch parades, play games, and visit a carnival. Of course, there was also a lot of Spam! During the festival, the city was filled with blue and yellow colors, just like Spam packaging. You might even see people dancing in big Spam can costumes.

SPAM Jam in Hawaii

Today, SPAM Jam is celebrated every year in Honolulu, Hawaii. It takes place during the last week of April. This festival is quickly becoming one of Hawaii's most popular events. It offers great food and entertainment in a friendly, family-safe setting. Many local people and visitors make this a yearly tradition. In 2009, about 20,000 people came to the event.

During the festival, Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki is closed to cars. This main street becomes a walking area. Several entertainment stages are set up along the street. Many of Honolulu's best restaurants serve Spam in creative and delicious ways. You can find Spam in many different dishes.

There are also tents selling Spam-themed items. You can buy T-shirts, shorts, sports balls, and slippers with Spam designs. Many Hawaiian craft booths are also set up. They sell unique handmade items.

Spam was first made in 1937 by Hormel Foods. People in Hawaii eat more Spam per person than in any other U.S. state. Almost seven million cans of Spam are eaten in Hawaii every year.
