Squaw Island is a small piece of land surrounded by water in Lake Michigan. It is part of a group of islands called the Beaver Island archipelago. An archipelago is simply a chain or cluster of islands.
This island is about 75 acres in size, which is roughly the size of 57 football fields! Squaw Island is privately owned. It is located less than two miles northeast of Whiskey Island. It is also a little over three miles west of Garden Island.
The historic Squaw Island Light is a lighthouse found on the northern tip of the island. Lighthouses help guide ships safely through the water.
