Stéphane Audran was a famous French actress. She was born as Colette Suzanne Dacheville on November 8, 1932. She became well-known for her roles in many award-winning movies. Some of her most famous films include The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972) and Babette's Feast (1987). She also appeared in other popular films like The Big Red One (1980). Stéphane Audran passed away on March 27, 2018, at the age of 85.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Stéphane Audran was raised by her mother. Her father, who was a doctor, passed away when she was young. In 1964, she married the director and screenwriter Claude Chabrol. Before that, she had a short marriage to the actor Jean-Louis Trintignant. Her son with Claude Chabrol is the actor Thomas Chabrol, who was born in 1963. Her marriage to Chabrol ended in 1980.

Audran's first important acting role was in Chabrol's film Les Cousins (1959). After this, she appeared in most of Claude Chabrol's movies. Their work together helped her become a recognized actress.

Stéphane Audran starred in many films directed by Claude Chabrol. Some of these include Les Bonnes Femmes (1960) and La Femme Infidèle (1968). She gained a lot of attention for her role in Les Biches (1968). In this film, she played a wealthy woman. For her performance in Les Biches, she won the Silver Bear for Best Actress award at the 18th Berlin International Film Festival.

She also played a school teacher in rural France in Le Boucher (1970). Other notable films with Chabrol include Juste Avant La Nuit (1971) and Violette Nozière (1978).

One of her most celebrated roles outside of Chabrol's films was as Alice Senechal. This was in Luis Buñuel's Oscar-winning movie Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie (1972).

Audran also acted in films and TV shows made in English. She appeared in American movies like The Black Bird (1975). She was also in TV series such as Brideshead Revisited (1981) and Mistral's Daughter (1984). In 1974, she starred in the film version of Agatha Christie's mystery And Then There Were None.

Stéphane Audran received several awards for her acting. She won a French César Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Violette Nozière (1978). She also received a British Film Academy award for her part in Just Before Nightfall (1975).

Later Years and Passing

Stéphane Audran continued acting for many years. She passed away on March 27, 2018, at the age of 85. Her son, Thomas Chabrol, shared that she had been ill for a long time. She had been in the hospital for about two weeks before she returned home, where she died.
