St. John, also known as Saint John, is a town located in Lake County, Indiana, in the United States. It's a suburb found southeast of the big city of Chicago. The town was started way back in 1837. In 2010, about 14,850 people lived there. St. John has been recognized as a great place to live. In 2009, CNN said it was among the top 100 places to live in the U.S. Later, in 2014, Movoto Real Estate named it the 4th safest place in Indiana.

History of St. John
The St. John post office first opened in 1846. The town got its name from Saint Johns Church. This church was the very first one in Lake County. It was started by a German immigrant named John Hack.
Shrine of Christ’s Passion
St. John is home to a special place called the Shrine of Christ’s Passion. It opened in 2008. This shrine has an interactive display with 40 life-size statues. These statues show the story of the Passion of Christ, from the Garden of Gethsemane to the Resurrection. Many people visit the shrine. It has welcomed visitors from all 50 U.S. states and over 40 different countries.
Historic Buildings
The Francis P. Keilman House is another important site in St. John. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. This means it's a building with special historical importance.

In 2010, there were 14,850 people living in St. John. These people lived in 5,047 households, and 4,225 of these were families. The town had about 1,304 people per square mile (503 people per square kilometer).
Most of the people in St. John were White (93.5%). There were also smaller groups of African American (1.3%), Asian (1.3%), and Native American (0.1%) residents. About 8.2% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
Many households (40.2%) had children under 18 living with them. Most households (75.5%) were married couples. The average household had 2.94 people, and the average family had 3.25 people. The median age in St. John was 40.2 years old. About 27.3% of residents were under 18.
Education in St. John
Students in St. John attend schools from a few different school districts. The main ones are the Lake Central School Corporation, the Hanover Community School Corporation, and the Crown Point Community School Corporation.

St. John also has several private schools. These include:

Many high school students from St. John also attend other private high schools nearby. These include Andrean High School in Merrillville, Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois, and Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, Illinois.
