Music Journey
St. Lunatics had their first big local song called "Gimme What U Got" in 1996. This song helped them get noticed.
In 2000, Nelly signed a record deal with Universal Records. Soon after, the rest of the group also signed with Universal. While Nelly was working on his first solo album, Country Grammar, the group kept working hard.
After Nelly became very famous in 2000, St. Lunatics released their first album as a group. It was called Free City. This album came out in 2001. Two popular songs from the album were "Summer in the City" and "Midwest Swing." Free City sold over a million copies in the United States. It also sold many copies in Canada.
Solo Projects and New Music
After the group's success, some members released their own music. In 2002, Ali released his solo album, Heavy Starch. Then, in 2003, Murphy Lee released his album, Murphy's Law. Murphy also started his own music company called UC ME Entertainment.
Nelly continued to have a very successful solo career. In 2011, he helped open a music school in St. Louis. It was called Ex'treme Institute (E.I.) and taught people how to make music.
Around 2009, St. Lunatics were planning a new album called City Free. It was supposed to come out that summer. However, the album was put on hold until 2011. Some songs, like "St. Lunatics" and "Get Low 2 Da Flo," were shared online early. The first official song from the album was "Money Talks," which featured the rapper Birdman. Another song released was "Polo."
