The Story of St. Albans Church

How the Church Was Built

St. Albans Church was designed by an architect named Louis Ambler. The very first stone, called the foundation stone, was put in place on November 5, 1910. A very important person, the Duke of Portland, helped with this special event.

The church was officially opened and blessed on July 2, 1911. This blessing was done by the Bishop of Southwell, Sir Edwyn Hoskyns.

Changes Over Time

Later, in 1937, a new part of the church called the north aisle was added. This addition was also blessed on September 31, 1937.

In 1968, the church had a big fire. After the fire, the church needed a lot of repairs. It was fixed up and opened again in 1969.
