St. Andrew's Church is a historic parish church for the Church of England located in the village of Skegby, Nottinghamshire.
The church is very special and has been officially recognized for its importance. It is a Grade II listed building. This means a government department has decided it has special architectural or historical value and must be protected for future generations to enjoy.
Near the church entrance, you can also find the Skegby War Memorial. This monument, which honors local people who died in wars, is also Grade II listed because of its own historical importance.
History of the Church
St. Andrew's is a medieval church, meaning parts of it are hundreds of years old, dating back to the Middle Ages. The oldest part of the building is the north arcade (a series of arches), which was built in the 13th century.
The church sits on a hill that looks out over the village of Skegby. It is so old that it was even mentioned in the famous Domesday Book. This was a huge survey of all the land and property in England, ordered by King William the Conqueror all the way back in 1086.
