A Look Back in Time
This church was first built a very long time ago, in the 13th century. That means it is over 700 years old! Imagine all the history this building has seen. By the 1700s, parts of the church had fallen into disrepair and were in ruins.
Restoring the Church
Luckily, people worked to restore it. In 1845, the main parts, called the nave and chancel, were fixed up. Later, in 1898, a new arch for the chancel and a room for the organ were added by W.S. Hicks. The north aisle, which is a side section of the church, was rebuilt in 1912.
Its Special Location
One of the most interesting things about St Bartholomew's Church is where it stands. It is built on a dramatic headland, which is a piece of land that sticks out into the sea. This gives the church a very striking and beautiful view.
The Church Organ
The church once had a pipe organ built by a company called Nelson and Co around 1910. Organs like this are large musical instruments that use air passing through pipes to make sound.
