History of St David's Church
There has been a church on this spot for a very long time. The first church was built here during the late Anglo-Saxon period. This was a time in history before the Normans arrived in England.
Building the Current Church
The church you see today was finished in the year 1900. It was designed by a famous architect named W. D. Caröe. A writer named John Betjeman once said it was the "finest example of Victorian church architecture in the south west." This means it's a great example of buildings from the time of Queen Victoria.
What Was Here Before?
Before the current church, there was another building on the same site. That church started being built in 1816. It was designed in a style called Greek Doric. This style uses tall, simple columns. However, that church was taken down and rebuilt around the year 1900 to create the church we see today.
