History of St James' Church
The Bishop of Oxford officially opened St James' Church on August 30, 1859. The church was built entirely by the sisters of General George Alexander Reid. He was a Member of Parliament for Windsor.
A modern building called the St James Centre was added to the site. It is located behind the main church building. George Carey, a former Archbishop, opened this new center in March 2006.
The church celebrated a big milestone on August 31, 2009. This date marked its 150th anniversary.
The Church Organ
The church has a pipe organ. It might have been built by Henry Jones around the time the church first opened. The organ was later updated in 1910 by S.F. Dalladay. It was also modified in 1970 by Cedric Arnold, Williamson & Hyatt. More details about this organ can be found on the National Pipe Organ Register.
