St Mary's Church is a special church in Radcliffe on Trent, Nottinghamshire. It belongs to the Church of England. This church is listed as a Grade II listed building. This means it is very important for its history or its design.
History of St Mary's Church
There was an even older church on this spot a long, long time ago. Not much of that first church is left today. The part of the church called the chancel was built in 1858. A person named Charles Bailey from Newark-on-Trent designed it. The rest of the church was built later, between 1879 and 1880. Joseph Goddard and Alfred Henry Paget from Leicester were the architects for this part.
Today, St Mary's Church is part of a bigger group. It works together with St. Peter and St. Paul's Church, Shelford. This is called a "united parish."
The Church Bells
St Mary's Church has eight bells. These bells were made in 1947 by a company called Taylors of Loughborough. The biggest bell is very heavy, weighing about 15 cwt. That's like having 1500 pounds of weight!
The Old Parsonage House
The house where the church's priest used to live is called the parsonage. This house was built in 1827. It was designed by an architect named Henry Moses Wood.
