St Mary's Church is a special building in Radcliffe on Trent, Nottinghamshire. It is a parish church that belongs to the Church of England. This church is considered very important because of its history and design. It has a special "Grade II listed" status from the government, which means it's a building of great architectural or historical interest.

The Church's Story

There was an older church on this spot many, many years ago, during the Middle Ages. Not much of that first church is left today. The part of the church called the chancel (the area around the altar) was built in 1858. A man named Charles Bailey from Newark-on-Trent designed it.

Most of the rest of the church you see today was built later, between 1879 and 1880. Two architects, Joseph Goddard and Alfred Henry Paget from Leicester, were in charge of this work. Today, St Mary's Church is part of a larger group of churches that includes St. Peter and St. Paul's Church, Shelford. They work together as one big parish.

The Church Bells

St Mary's Church has eight bells that ring out for services and special events. These bells were made in 1947 by a company called Taylors of Loughborough, which is famous for making bells. The heaviest bell weighs about 15 cwt. A hundredweight is an old unit of weight, and 15 cwt is roughly equal to 762 kilograms, which is very heavy!

The Parsonage House

Next to the church is the parsonage house. This is where the church's priest or vicar used to live. This house was built in 1827. It was designed by an architect named Henry Moses Wood.
