History of St Mary's Church
This church has a long history, dating all the way back to the 12th century. That's over 800 years ago! Imagine all the events and people this church has seen.
Around the year 1895, the roof over the chancel (the part of the church near the altar) was fixed up. Later, in 1925, the roof over the nave (the main part of the church where people sit) also needed repairs. It was found to have Deathwatch beetle, which are tiny insects that can damage wood.
Inside the church, you can see a special symbol called the royal coat of arms. This particular one was made in 1720. It shows the official symbol of the British royal family from that time.
