The Former Church of St Mary, Wythall, is a special old building in Wythall, Worcestershire, England. It used to be a church for the Church of England, but it is no longer used for regular services. This building is protected by law because it is a Grade II listed building, which means it is important for its history and architecture.

History of the Church Building

When the Church Was Built

The original church building was constructed in 1862. A person named Frederick Preedy was the architect who designed it. Later, in 1908, a tall and noticeable tower was added to the church. This tower was a gift from the Misses Mynors. They gave it in memory of their parents.

Changes Over Time

In the 1960s, a special basin called a font was moved into St Mary's Church. This font came from Immanuel Church, Birmingham, after that church was taken down.

What Happened to the Old Church

The building stopped being used for church services in 1986. After that, an electrical company bought the building. For many years, from 1987 to 2014, the church community met in different school halls nearby. Their last meeting place was Coppice Primary School.

The New St Mary's Church

In 2014, a brand new St Mary's Church opened its doors. This new church is located on Shawhurst Lane in Hollywood. It is built on the same site where Coppice Primary School used to be. You can find more details about the history of the church building online.

The Church Organ

The church had a musical instrument called an organ. This organ was made in 1908 by a company called Nicholson and Co.. Experts have written down the details of this organ, and you can find them in the National Pipe Organ Register.

The Churchyard

The area around the church, called the churchyard, is a burial ground. It contains the war graves of eight soldiers. These soldiers were part of the Commonwealth forces and died during the Second World War.
