A Look at Its History
This church was built a long time ago, between 1855 and 1857. It was designed by a famous architect named George Edmund Street. He created the church in a style called Gothic Revival. This means it looks like the grand churches built in the Middle Ages, with pointed arches and tall windows.
The Church of St Mary the Virgin is considered very important for its history and design. It is listed at Grade II*, which is a special way of saying it's a really important historical building in England.

The Church of St Mary the Virgin has a cool connection to a well-known person! A long time ago, the church's vicar was Reverend Hubert Brasier. A vicar is a priest who leads a local church. Reverend Brasier was the father of Theresa May, who later became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She even got married at this very church!

The churchyard, which is the area around the church, is a peaceful place. It contains three special graves called Commonwealth war graves. These graves belong to soldiers and sailors who bravely fought and died in the World Wars.
