History of the Church
This church is very old, dating back to the 12th century. That's over 800 years ago! A lot of changes happened to the church between 1882 and 1883. A person named Frederick Josias Robinson was in charge of these updates.
During this time, the old flat roof was taken off and a new sloped roof was put on. The plaster that covered the walls inside was removed. The floors were also replaced. In the front part of the church, called the chancel, new patterned tiles were laid. The rest of the church got new wooden block floors.
A new stone font was added. A font is a special basin used for baptisms. The church also received a pulpit that used to be in St Oswald's Church, Ashbourne. A pulpit is a raised stand where a preacher gives a sermon. The company that did all this work was J Knowles of Brassington.
