St Peter's Church, Spring Hill is a building in Birmingham, England. It used to be a Church of England parish church. Today, it is known as the New Testament Church of God the Rock. This building is considered very important because it is a Grade B listed building. This means it has special historical or architectural value.

The History of St Peter's Church

How the Church Began

The very first church named after St Peter in Birmingham was built a long time ago in a place called Dale End. That church was finished in 1827. However, it was closed down in 1899. The old church was then taken apart. The money and resources from the old church were used to help build a brand new one.

Building the New Church

The new St Peter's Church, the one we are talking about, was designed by a talented architect named Frank Barlow Osborn. The building work started in 1901. It was completed and officially opened in 1902. A special ceremony called a "consecration" took place on July 19, 1902. The Bishop of Worcester led this important event.

The Church's Parish

When the new church opened, it was given its own area to serve, called a "parish." This parish was created from parts of two other church areas: All Saints' Church, Hockley and St Mark's Church, Ladywood. This meant that people living in those areas would now go to St Peter's Church.

A New Chapter for the Building

St Peter's Church served as a Church of England parish church for many years. However, in 2001, the Church of England decided to close it. The church's parish then joined with the parish of St John's Church, Ladywood.

After it closed, the building was sold. In January 2004, it became the New Testament Church of God the Rock. This means the building continues to be a place of worship, but for a different Christian group.
