The St Radegund is a well-known pub located on King Street, Cambridge in England. A pub is a place where people can gather, socialize, and enjoy food and drinks. This pub is named after St Radegund, a famous Frankish saint who has a connection to the nearby Jesus College.

What is the St Radegund Pub Like?

The St Radegund pub is a special place for many local groups. It is home to the Cantabrigensis Hash House Harriers, which is a running and social club. It also supports a rowing club and even has its own cricket team! The pub is also famous as the starting and finishing point for the exciting King Street Run.

A Place for Sports and Stories

Many of these activities were encouraged by Terry Kavanagh, who was the pub's owner from 1992 to 2009. He even started the cricket team. Since 1992, the St Radegund cricket team has played an annual match against another local pub, The Champion of the Thames. They play for a special prize called the King Street Trophy.

In 2008, a book was published about the St Radegund cricket team's trip to Croatia in 2003. The book was called The Ascent of Mount Hum and was very popular.

Smallest Pub in Cambridge

The St Radegund is known for being the smallest pub in Cambridge. For many years, Friday nights at the pub were special because of the Vera Lynn Appreciation Society. People would gather to listen to the music of Vera Lynn, a famous singer from wartime.

The Changing Pub Sign

In 2007, people noticed something interesting about the pub's sign. It showed the coat of arms of a town in Austria, Sankt Radegund bei Graz, instead of a picture of the saint herself. A local artist was asked to fix this mistake, and the story even made the news!

However, in 2010, the new owner, James Hoskins, decided to bring back the old design with the Austrian coat of arms.

Recent Changes and Reopening

In early 2015, the pub was closed for a while to get a fresh new look. It was refurbished and redecorated. After this, it became a pub that mainly served beers from the Saffron Brewery. This meant it stopped selling its own special beers, Habit and Sackcloth, which were made for the pub by Milton Brewery.

The pub closed again in August 2019. But good news came in 2020 when a company called Cold Chain Bars bought it. The St Radegund pub finally reopened its doors in March 2024, ready to welcome visitors once more.
